“The festival for innovation and creativity” – We got the opportunity to visit the Fifteen Seconds Festival 2022 in Graz. The festival itself was packed with a lot of great people and business ideas. Even though there were no explicit speakers about our genre there was still a lot to take away from it. To hear such inspiring stories was such a joyful and important experience for our futures. On to the next goals!
The 50th edition of VulkanLAN was all about games and gamers in Graz. There was a LAN party with community sessions, but also the A1 eSports Valorant Finale and other great tournaments. The event was also open to visitors and hundreds of people joined the event. In cooperation with Game Dev Graz and Game Lab Graz the Game Dev Students were part of the game dev area. Several members of the Game Dev Students showed their games, and the One Button Game fascinated e-sports teams with its rare way to achieve high scores. The goal of the Game Dev Students was to connect gamers and game developers, in order to spark interest for game dev and computer science amogst players of all ages and show how games work behind the scenes.

On Tuesday, October 19 at 19:00 the Game Dev Students can be seen on TV. In the recurring ORF report “Wissenswert” – which is part of “Steiermark heute” – we get to show the various projects that we are working on! The viewers get some impressions of the lively and active scene around game development at Graz University of Technology: Dedicated students, faculties & industry partners are working together to promote game development and support innovative game projects developed in Graz.
EuroSkills ist die Europameisterschaft der Berufe. An 3 Wettbewerbstagen messen sich rund 400 junge, talentierte Fachkräfte in 45 Berufen und stellen ihre Fähigkeiten unter Beweis. Heuer hat der Berufswettbewerb in Graz stattgefunden. Tausende BesucherInnen haben die Wettkämpfe mit Spannung verfolgt und durften auch selbst verschiedenste Berufe genauer kennenlernen. Denn nicht nur die Europameister standen im Rampenlicht!
Bei der EuroSkills Berufsmesse gab es Einblicke in verschiedenste Berufswelten. Im Rahmen des „Try a Skill“ Programms wurde Jugendlichen und Interessierten ein praxisnaher Einblick geboten. Die GameDevStudents Graz haben in Kooperation mit GameDevGraz und der Wirtschaftskammer Steiermark ein Game entwickelt, das vor Ort erweitert und modifiziert werden konnte.
MaturantInnen, BerufsschülerInnen, LehrerInnen und Eltern konnten so in die Welt der Spieleentwicklung eintauchen, und in einer hands-on Erfahrung erkunden wie Games funktionieren. BesucherInnen durften auch selbst experimentieren und erste Schritte im Leveldesign machen. Dadurch konnten wir Interesse an Game Development wecken, und aufzeigen wie vielfältig technische Studiengänge und Berufe sein können.
This past weekend the Global Game Jam 2020 took place at the Graz University of Technology. An event where people from around the world get together to develop new Games. This year’s topic was “Repair”.
With 50 participants, the jam site in Graz was the largest of Austria.
Five of our members, Sandra, Anton, Thomas, Christian and Johannes participated in the event and in the end we created three fully fledged games in just 48 hours.
